Daughter to Claire Stoermer, a German and Scottish heritage teacher and Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, an African-American gym teacher/manager, Zendaya developed a passion for performance while growing up. Her role in the first “Dune” was limited but in the second movie, her character became very important to the story line. She received praise from critics and audiences alike for the emotion she put into the acting and the physically demanding nature of her performances in both films.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Zendaya made the film “Malcom & Marie”. It was a small film with just two people in it, and she acted in it against John David Washington. The film is about a couple, a writer and his girlfriend, and how their relationship has changed over time. In 2024, Zendaya played the part of Tashi Duncan, a young tennis player who becomes a coach, and gets involved in a complicated love affair, in the film “Challengers”, directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film showed once again one of her talents – being able to show a combination of physicality, sensuality, and emotional depth in the same performance.
In addition to acting, Zendaya has also become a leading force in the world of fashion.
