Robert Hepler Lowe was born in Charlottesville, VA on March 17, 1964 to a teacher mom and lawyer dad. Lowe spent time growing up in Dayton, OH. When he turned 15 years old, Lowe began his acting career with the short lived ABC sitcom “A New Kind of Family”.
Lowe’s Rise to Stardom in the 1980s

As one of the members of the “Brat Pack,” Lowe rose rapidly through the ranks of film after appearing in several youth-oriented movies during the middle to end of the 1980s. Lowe’s first major film appearance was in Francis Ford Coppola’s movie The Outsiders (1983) along with other up-and-coming actors that would be big names down the line, Tom Cruise and Patrick Swayze. Lowe would continue to make hits throughout the remainder of the decade with films such as St. Elmo’s Fire (1985), About Last Night (1986), etc., establishing himself as both a Hollywood heartthrob and teen icon.
Challenges In Lowe’s Personal Life and Recovery

In 1988, Lowe found himself at the center of a highly publicized sex-tape scandal, which caused a temporary halt to his acting career. Lowe checked himself into rehab and has remained sober ever since. Lowe used these personal struggles as a basis for his advocacy work.
TV Comeback
Late in the 1990s, Lowe began to experience a significant comeback on television. Lowe received great reviews, including an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations, for his portrayal of idealistic speech writer Sam Seaborn on NBC’s The West Wing (1999-2003, guest star on the show again in 2006). Lowe would go on to appear in Brothers & Sisters (2006-2010) and as Chris Traeger on Parks and Recreation (2010-2015).

Owen Strand is the Texas Captain of Firehouse 125 in New York City who is portrayed by actor Rob Lowe on Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star. The fifth and final season of 9-1-1: Lone Star ended in Febuary 2025. Lowe has also hosted The Floor (a new quiz show) since 2024 and started his podcast called Literally! With Rob Lowe in 2020. He will be starring in an upcoming movie titled “My New Friend Jim” with co-star Keith David. He will also be starring in an upcoming rom com on Netflix titled “In a Holidaze”. Additionally, he will be starring in the television series “The Ram”, but it is still in production.
Life Outside of Acting

Rob Lowe has been married to Makeup Artist Sheryl Berkoff since 1991 and they have two children together. Lowe is a passionate supporter of Cancer Research due to his family having experienced cancer. Lowe is also a New York Times Bestselling Author with two Memoirs entitled “Stories I Only Tell My Friends” (2011) and “Love Life” (2014).
