Richie Akiva :The Fall of a NYC Nightlife Icon
Published: February 2, 2026
Richie Akiva was one of the most well known figures in the nightlife scene of New York City.
Akiva controlled many of Manhattan’s top and elite nightclubs such as Butter, 1Oak and Up & Down. While these are simply clubs for many people they are more than this to those who party at them.

A-Listers such as Leonardo DiCaprio (who is also friends with Akiva), Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, and many other have attended parties hosted by Akiva.
From where it appeared that Akiva could do no wrong, Akiva began his fall from power in 2026.
What happened to Akiva has been called a “dramatic” and “mysterious” fall — a dramatic fall from a nightlife icon to a convicted felon.
The Incident That Changed Everything

January 7, 2026, in the early morning hours, law enforcement officials claim that Akiva, who was 49 years old at the time and accompanied by another individual (allegedly a former security guard for one of Akiva’s clubs, Up & Down) entered a Soho home where Michael Morriati lived; a 35 year-old entertainment executive and long-time associate —and reportedly friend—of Akiva.
Morriatti was asleep in bed when he was allegedly hit on the head with a metal pipe, suffering serious injuries, including a broken nose, damage to his right shoulder, and a damaged right leg. Also included are claims that threats were made toward the victim, and that he was forced to send money through an application during or after the attack.Akiva has stated that he believes he was “wronged” by Morriatti, while Morriatti has denied any wrongdoing and called Akiva’s accusations false.
The arrest and the legal aftermath
Akiva surrendered to police January 21, 2026. He was arraigned at Manhattan Criminal Court, entered a plea of not guilty, and was bailed out for $50,000 (courtesy of celebrity bail bondsman Ira Judelson, who also assisted Brown). His mug shot would soon surface as a jarring contrast to the glamorous photos taken at red carpet events over the years.

Akiva denied the allegations made against him to reporters saying they were all lies, and welcomed an independent investigation. By early February 2026, the case is still pending — no trial date has been set, and no significant developments have occurred; however, the nature of the charges are very serious. This was not the first time Akiva had run afoul of the law. In March 2025, he was facing misdemeanor charges for operating a vehicle while his license was suspended.
From Glamour to “Down Bad”

Insiders are calling this shocking. According to a nightlife source at Page Six: “He’s down bad right now.” From being able to call Rihanna or Jay-Z to answer his telephone to facing felony charges related to violence and betrayal, The story shows us how high the highs are in celebrity culture, and how low the lows can go when past personal betrayals turn into violence; In addition to reminding us that, even in the world’s most elite groups, violence and drama can occur.
We will undoubtedly be hearing more from each side as the legal process continues on. As for now, Richie Akiva’s name is being made by the press due to an evening which apparently became violent, and not because he threw an epic party. This one has the makings of a classic New York City cautionary tale. I want to know what you think: did things get out of hand from a past betrayal, or was there more to the story?
