Mavo: The Voice of “Bur Bur” Music – A 2026 Biography

Mavos music

Afrobeats has long been defined by its ever-shifting landscape; however, each few years there are seismic events that redefine the geographic nature of the genre. That event occurred in 2026 when it was realized through Marvin Ukanigbe Oseremen (or Mavo) that he had created an entirely new sub-genre of Afrobeats titled “Bur Bur” and, simultaneously, had achieved something that would take other established artist’s decades to accomplish: six songs in the Nigerian Top 10 at one time; a Billboard “African Rookie of the Month” designation; and collaborative work with all three of Africa’s biggest names in music — Wizkid, Davido & Burna Boy. Perhaps the most amazing part of this story is that while he is at or near the top of virtually every major chart worldwide, he is also completing his last year of Optometry school.

Early years in life for Mavo; from Ekpoma to Lumen Christi

Mavo’s upbringing in Ekpoma, Edo state was an atmosphere of silent, observant discipline. While most of his peers used their natural talents as athletes, performers and socialites to get attention at an early age, Mavo chose a different path. His creativity was hidden behind closed doors, so to speak. This is why his music journey really started when he attended Lumen Christi International High School (one of Nigeria’s top three international high schools), which has a reputation for being very academic and highly competitive. At this school it was where Marvin became known as Mavo. Almost every Friday evening, Mavo would perform original lyrics and melody compositions that he had written out carefully to his fellow students in the Music Club. As well as performing, Mavo would write out lyrics carefully, and he says “when my friends were playing on the football field, I’d be sitting in my dorm room reading about how my favorite artists such as Wande Coal and Duncan Mighty are able to express themselves creatively through their use of lyrical flexibility.”
“My first priority growing up was to develop my skills as a writer rather than as a performer. Before I even entered the recording studio I wanted to see if I could create stories that would draw listeners towards them.” –Mavo

The Double Life: Optometry & The Digital Vault

Mavo attended Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) to pursue an undergraduate degree in optometry in 2022. For many, this would be the end of their music career due to the rigorous amount of work required for a medical-related field. However, the intense schoolwork provided motivation for Mavo to continue creating music; in fact, he created a digital vault where he spent four years completely alone. In those four years, Mavo produced hundreds of tracks, all on his own. By the time he finally released his first track professionally in 2023, he had 300+ tracks at the ready. This self-discipline helped set him apart from others who may experience a viral hit. He did not simply experience one viral hit – he has been building a pipeline or a supply chain.

What is “bur bur ” music ?

Bur Bur is the term used to describe Mavo’s Luxurious Music. While “Bur Bur” may sound like a rhythmic chant to those who don’t understand it, Mavo has made it clear what this term means to him. He describes it as the “Essence of Indulgent Success through Consumption.” This style of music was created by blending Bouncy Afropop with Rap. In addition to this fusion, Mavo developed Bizzylingua, which is a language that includes over 80 different words. These are some of the words that are included in his dictionary of Bizzylingua.

Bizzylingua Vocabulary:

Escaladizzy- When someone has achieved high levels of luxury and says they have achieved such success because they live in the back of an Escalade (or other similar vehicle).

Shakabulizzy- An extremely energetic movement that takes place on the streets (a dance move) known as “popping.”

Bur Bur/Burti – Achieving ultimate levels of indulgence through consumption.

Ifatizzy – To focus intensely on achieving your financial goals, or being locked into achieving your goals.
Virulent Growth: Escaladizzy and the Remix Explosion
On June 1st, 2025, Mavo’s “Escaladizzy” (feat. WAVE$TAR) exploded on TikTok. However, when social media started to make waves with its remixes and versions, “Escaladizzy” became the theme song for 2026.
Escaladizzy II: When Mavo enlisted Ayra Starr, Zlatan, and Shallipopi to create the second version of “Escaladizzy”, he created a cross-demographic link between the Alte movement and Street Pop music.
Davido’s Endorsement: After releasing “Shakabulizzy,” Davido directly contacted Mavo through an Instagram DM. This collaboration went from a feature to full-fledged endorsement. Davido allegedly returned his part to Mavo within 24 hours, which signaled that Mavo is now the next “Chosen One” in the industry.
Collaboration with Wizkid: On or about the last day of 2025, DJ Tunez collaborated with Wizkid on the chart-topping track “MONEY CONSTANT.” Since most people are willing to spend money for a “Wizkid Verse”, DJ Tunez sought out Mavo because he recognized that Mavo had produced music that resonated at the top of the music industry.

Early 2026: “African Rookie”, The One With A Billion Streams On His Back

In early 2026, it became obvious that Mavo would be the one to take over. Billboard named him as their “African Rookie Of The Month”. They stated that “he can invert language to make pop go upside down.”

Mavo’s Historic Run (Q2/2026):

Current Chart Successes: As of April 2026, he has six singles charting on the Nigeria top ten across multiple streaming platforms.
Independence And Major Deals: Although major labels have expressed interest in signing with Mavo (Sony, Universal) – Mavo continues to be signed to Inner Circle Entertainment through his own label; Kilogbede Records.
“The Big Thing” For Q1 2026: In late 2025 Mavo mentioned that there was an upcoming “serious music” project for 2026 which he said would “be crazy” and further emphasized that the project would differ from his previous projects which were solely based on viral slang.

Lessons for Rising Artists from Mavo’s Journey

LessonMavo’s Application
The Vault StrategyDon’t release your first song until you have 50 ready. Consistency is a supply chain issue.
Invent Your LanguageMavo didn’t just use current slang; he built “Bizzylingua.” This makes his brand ownable and unique.
Education is a Safety NetBy staying in school for Optometry while topping charts, Mavo built a level of discipline that prevents the “sudden fame” burnout.

Personal Life & Relationships

Mavo is very focused or as he likes to say “Ipatizzy”. Mavo does not like the spill tea culture and will keep all of his personal relationships completely under wraps. His close relationship with fellow Edo State Native, Shallipopi has been an anchor in his social circle. Fans have come to refer to their connection as the “Benin-Ekpoma Axis”.

As for how he spends his free time, it’s best to describe Mavo as living a “Quiet Luxury”, where he wears designer streetwear and records in a private recording studio. This is a stark contrast from the chaotic nightclubs that are so prevalent in Lagos. In addition to this, he admits to feeling overwhelmed by the new found fame.

FINAL VERDICT

Mavo is more than an internet sensation; he is the pioneer of a totally new way of speaking and rapping in West Africa. As he gets ready to finish school as an Optometry student in July 2026, people around the globe are now waiting for him to become a “full time Bur Bur” Mogul.
