As of 2026 Damson Idris will be 34 years old and as a British Nigerian Actor/Entrepreneur/Film Producer he is quickly becoming a household name in Hollywood. He is known for having an incredible screen presence, being emotionally deep, and versatile; and therefore able to make a smooth transition from successful TV roles to big movies.
Early life & background

Adamson Alade-Bo “Damson” Idris, was born September 2nd, 1991, in Peckham, South East London to a Nigerian family of Yoruba heritage. The youngest of six children, Adamson was raised mainly by his single mother, Philippa; a businesswoman who instilled her young son with very high standards of self-discipline and ambition.Adamson grew up in relatively low-income circumstances but described his childhood home as proud culturally, and full of family support. As a youth, Adamson was extremely physically active, and involved in sports. He developed exceptional skills in playing football (soccer) and idolized such soccer stars as Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo, he also had a great deal of success playing rugby. When Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 2002, Adamson was selected from his school to be part of a group of youths to shake hands with the Queen. This experience at the age of eleven clearly illustrated Adamson’s competitive spirit and physical presence which would serve him well in his future acting endeavors.
Education and acting

The path to acting began with an educational pursuit as Idris attended Brunel University London, where he earned a BA (Hons) in theatre film television studies. It was during this period that he would meet Cathy Tyson, a British actress; she encouraged him to audition for a performance of Pandora’s Box by Ade Solanke. The successful audition for the part would help him secure a talent agent, and subsequently provide the opportunity for additional stage work. After being cast in the production, Idris continued to perform on stages throughout London, including a performance at the Royal National Theatre. Following his graduation from Brunel, Idris then attended the Identity School of Acting along side other notable actors such as John Boyega and Letitia Wright. Brunel University honoured Idris’ contributions by awarding him the Alumni Award for Outstanding Contribution to Culture and Creativity in 2024.
Breakthrough with snowfall

Damson Idris’s screen career started with some bit parts in some UK TV programs like “Miranda” & “Doctors”, then he had a film debut in “City of Tiny Lights” (2016), but it was in 2017 when Idris made his big break through with the FX show “Snowfall” created by John Singleton. This is a historical drama about the 1980s crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles. He played the lead character Franklin Saint; a clever and ambitious young man who gets involved with the drugs trade. Idrais has portrayed this character over many seasons, initially showing the character as an idealistic business man, and ultimately as a harden king pin. Before being cast on the show, Idris auditioned for the role via video from London, after which he met with John Singleton in person to fine-tune his American accent. Idrais received praise and awards for his portrayal of Franklin Saint, receiving several award nomination including BET & NAACP Image Award nomination, and solidified himself as one of the top actors to portray complex black characters accurately.
Roles in Diverse Films & TV
Damson Idris showed off his versatility beyond Snowfall through several other projects. He played a semi-autobiographical Nigerian-British teenager who navigates issues of identity and feeling disconnected in Farming (2018), which was directed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Credits include Liam Neeson’s The Commuter (2018); Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror episode “Smithereens,” (2019); Outside the Wire (Netflix, 2021) with Anthony Mackie; and Donald Glover’s Swarm (Netflix, 2023).
F1 Film Breaks Box Office Records (2025)

Damson Idris became the first African actor to achieve mainstream success in F1 (also known as F1: The Movie) released in June of 2025 and directed by Joseph Kosinski. In this high-speed racing movie that tells the story of an underdog Formula One Team Idris starred as rookie F1 driver Joshua Pearce who is paired against the likes of Brad Pitt in the F1 drama, which has been praised for Idris’s charismatic performance, emotional depth and his ability to physically commit to his role as a rookie F1 driver. As one of the few movies with actual F1 footage included, and several notable appearances from real world F1 drivers including the film’s Executive Producer Lewis Hamilton, the film has made over $630 Million worldwide. Nominations for Idris were for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Outstanding Breakout Performance at the 2026 Black Reel Awards.
Future Upcoming Projects
Damson Idris’s momentum continues through to 2026 and beyond. The final project he completed was Gina Prince-Bythewood’s adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone (release date is 2027) which starred him as Prince Inan along with Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, and Tosin Cole. He will be portraying Miles Davis in Miles & Juliette, a biographical drama film directed by Bill Pohlad that explores Miles Davis’s romance with Juliette Gréco in Paris in 1949. Reports have been circulating about Idris playing Black Panther in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, which is slated to be released in December 2026; the news generated a lot of buzz among fans. Additionally, he will be providing both voice and motion capture for the upcoming sci-fi video game Squadron 42 (which is expected to be released in 2026).
Damson Idris Private Life
Damson Idris has maintained a rather quiet and private life. In 2022 he started dating Lori Harvey (a model) and they broke up in 2023, however there have been photos of them together that have caused people to speculate that the two may be getting back together after being spotted together at least once in Miami and another time while on vacation. Idris credits his mother as a true “hero” and remains close to his roots. As an Ambassador for both Tommy Hilfiger and Prada, Idris is a prime example of how style and business can go hand-in-hand. In interviews Idris has discussed how important it is for there to be representation in film/TV, how difficult fame can be and how much respect he has for actor Denzel Washington.

Through his first starring role as Franklin Saint in FX’s critically acclaimed drama series Snowfall (2017-2023), Damson Idris has made an impression on both television and film audiences as a talented young actor. Through that performance of a young 1980s era drug dealer who is caught up in the growing crack epidemic, he earned critical acclaim and numerous award wins including the BET Award for Best Actor; while developing a reputation as one of the most sought after and versatile young talents from Britain and Nigeria working in Hollywood today.
